Ugan concept Shanghai “Twisting” Showroom | Neri&Hu

2016年感物杭州概念展厅，以品牌中“感”与“物”的关系为设计主题，通过古语中的“四象六虚”将空间划分为两部分，是品牌空间设计表达的第一次尝试。今年，感物邀请如恩设计上海概念展厅，以品牌中“旋（Twisting）”的概念为设计主题，通过精心设计的陈列方式展示产品、传递品牌哲学。展厅还特别设有一间“城市客厅”，邀请客户在品味手冲咖啡的同时感受品牌独特氛围。

In 2016, Ugan concept's Hangzhou concept store was designed based on the relationship between the brand's “gan” and “wu”, dividing the space into twoparts according to the ancient Chinese words“si xiang liu xu”.This is Ugan's first attempt at spatial design expression. This year, Ugan invited Neri&Hu to design the Shanghai showroom, which is based on the brand's concept of “Twisting”, showcasing the products and conveying the brand's philosophy through carefullydesigned displays. The showroom also features an“Urban Living Room”, where customers are invited to experience the brand's unique atmosphere while enjoying a hand-brewed coffee.

感物品牌创立之初，创始人就提出了“木之年轮”的概念。树的生命从旋转开始，又以“木、炭、煤、灰”等生命形态，循环往复，彼此更替。如恩捕捉年轮流转出弧线的瞬间之美，以“旋”为设计主题，在规则的空间网格中穿插被旋转的物体，形成物理间隙中的张力，营造内外过渡中的暧昧瞬间和充满戏剧感的透视场景。

When the Ugan brand was first established, the founder proposed the concept of the “tree rings”. The life of a tree begins with the rotation of its annual rings, which are then recycled in the form ofwood, charcoal, coal and ash. Neri&Hu captures the beauty of the moment when the wheel of the year turns into an arc, using“Twisting”as the design theme, interspersing rotating objects in the regular spatial grid, creating tension in the gap, creating ambiguous moments in the transition between inside and outside, and creating perspective scenes full of a sense of drama.

位于上海江宁路的感物“旋”概念展厅坐落于设计共和内。设计共和不仅是家居与生活艺术的零售空间，更是一个融合了展厅、活动空间与餐厅的多元文化场所，为设计爱好者和设计师提供交流互动的平台。展厅所在的建筑前身为英国人建造的警察局（当时为巡捕房），后由如恩对其改造并重新诠释。穿过设计共和首层中庭，透过条形窗可以隐约窥见展厅的样貌：一个明亮的白色空间和幽深的灰色空间相互映衬，形成了二元并叙的概念展厅。

The Ugan “Twisting” showroom on Jiangning Road in Shanghai is located in Design Republic. Design Republic is not only a retail space for home furnishings and lifestyle art, but also a multicultural venue that combines a showroom, event space and restaurant, providing a platform for design lovers and designers to interact with each other. The showroom is housed in a building that was originally built by the British as a police station (then an arresting officer's house), but was later renovated and reinterpreted by Neri&Hu. Through the atrium on the first floor of Design Republic, the showroom can be glimpsed through the slatted windows: a bright white space and a dark grey space contrasting with each other, forming a dualistic and narrative concept of the showroom.

展厅橱窗

推开门，首先进入到如客厅般温馨舒适的白色空间，新与旧在此邂逅。这里保留了设计共和项目的改造手法，将白色新作饰面与未经修饰的红砖墙并置，形成强烈的视觉对比。空间中央的壁炉被精心保留，客人们坐在极简的现代家具上休息时，注视着壁炉上斑驳的青砖，仿佛置身于一场跨越时空的对话。

Pushing open the door, one first enters a white space as warm and cosy as a living room, where the old meets the new. The remodelling approach of the Design Republic project has been retained here, juxtaposing the new white finishes with the untouched red brick walls to create a strong visual contrast. The fireplace in the centre of the space has been carefully preserved, so that guests can gaze at the mottled bricks as they lounge on the minimalist modern furniture, as if in a dialogue across time and space.

展厅的咖啡空间

木制的手冲咖啡吧台则采用感物工匠经过特殊修复处理的回收木材，承载着过去与未来的交汇。在手冲咖啡的制作过程中，手磨咖啡豆时转动手柄的动作，以及向咖啡粉中画圈注水的动作，都呼应着“旋”这一主题概念。

The wooden hand-brewed coffee bar is made of reclaimed wood, specially restored by Ugan's craftsmen, and carries the intersection of the past and the future. In the process of hand-brewing coffee, the motions of turning the handle while grinding the beans by hand and pouring water into the ground coffee in a circular motion all echo the theme of ‘twisting’.

在明亮的咖啡客厅后方，隐约可见的灰色展厅营造出一种空间的庇护感。木材旋转的年轮象征着生命的力量，如恩受此启发，以“旋转”和“轨迹”为概念，在规则空间网格中放置了若干可移动、旋转的隔断，塑造出一个充满张力的陈列空间。

Behind the bright café space, a grey showroom is visible to create a sense of refuge in the space. Inspired by the rotating rings of wood, which symbolise the power of life, Neri&Hu has placed a number of movable and rotating partitions in a regular grid of space, using the concepts of rotation and trajectory, to create a display space full of tension.

在展厅的幽暗氛围中，订制的耐候钢展架上展示的地板样品被光线勾勒，如同自然笔触下的画作，静静陈列在空间里。移动和旋转的隔断增强了空间的戏剧感，呼应了感物将木地板视为“空间第一层肌肤”的理念。

In the dark atmosphere of the showroom, the flooring samples displayed on custom-made steel display racks are outlined by light, like paintings made with natural brushstrokes, and quietly displayed in the space. Moving and rotating partitions enhance the drama of the space, echoing Ugan's concept of wooden flooring as ‘the first skin of the space’. In order to convey this unique concept, Neri&Hu wanted the samples to be more than just displays, but to be integrated into the design of the space. Therefore, some of the samples were cleverly designed as table tops and floor platforms, allowing people to touch the wood grain texture and immerse themselves in the oriental wisdom conveyed by the brand.

为传递这一独特理念，如恩希望样品不仅仅作为展示品存在，而是更多地融入到空间设计中。因此，部分样品被巧妙地设计为桌面和地台，让人们通过触摸木纹肌理，沉浸式感知品牌所传达的东方智慧。

To convey this unique concept, Neri&Hu wanted the flooring samples to exist not just as displays, but to be more integrated into the design of the space. Therefore, some of the samples were cleverly designed as table tops and floor platforms, allowing people to touch the wood grain texture and immerse themselves in the oriental wisdom conveyed by the brand.
